Morning: Wildlife Safari & Conservation
6:00 AM - 6:30 AM: Hotel Pick-up & Drive to Nairobi National Park
Your driver-guide will pick you up from your Nairobi hotel.
The park is incredibly close to the city center (about 7 km), so the drive is very short. Aim to be at the park gate right when it opens.
6:30 AM - 10:30 AM: Morning Game Drive in Nairobi National Park
Enter the park (likely via Lang'ata Gate or Main Gate).
Embark on an exhilarating game drive. This is prime time to spot various animals, including:
Rhinos: Nairobi National Park is a critical sanctuary for the endangered black rhino. You'll have excellent chances of seeing them.
Lions, Leopards, Cheetahs: Predators are most active in the cool morning hours. Your guide will track them.
Giraffes, Zebras, Buffalo, Wildebeest, Elands, Gazelles: These herbivores are abundant and easy to spot.
Birdlife: The park boasts over 400 bird species, making it a birder's paradise.
You'll also visit key areas like:
Ivory Burning Site Monument: A historic and poignant site where confiscated ivory was burned to protest poaching.
Hippo Pools: A designated walking area where you can safely view hippos and crocodiles in the Athi River.
Various viewpoints: Like Baboon Cliff, offering panoramic views of the park and potentially the city skyline.
10:30 AM - 12:00 PM: David Sheldrick Wildlife Trust (Elephant Orphanage)
Exit the park and head to the Sheldrick Wildlife Trust, located near the park's main gate.
Important: Public visiting hours are strictly 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM. Arrive by 10:30 AM to get a good spot.
Witness the adorable baby elephants come in for their feeding, mud bath, and playtime. Their keepers share touching stories of each elephant's rescue and rehabilitation before they are eventually re-integrated into wild herds in Tsavo East National Park. It's a truly heartwarming experience.
Afternoon: Giraffe Encounter & Optional Cultural/Historical Visit
12:30 PM - 2:00 PM: Lunch
You can have lunch at a local restaurant near Karen (e.g., The Carnivore Restaurant for a unique "nyama choma" meat experience, or a more casual cafe). Alternatively, some tour operators can arrange a packed picnic lunch within the park at a designated site like Impala Observation Post or Kingfisher Picnic Site.
2:30 PM - 4:00 PM: Giraffe Centre
Head to the Giraffe Centre, home to the endangered Rothschild's giraffes.
Here, you can stand on an elevated platform and hand-feed these gentle giants. It's an incredible opportunity for close interaction and fantastic photos. You'll also learn about giraffe conservation efforts.
4:15 PM - 5:15 PM (Optional): Karen Blixen Museum OR Kazuri Beads
Option A: Karen Blixen Museum: If you're interested in colonial history and the story behind "Out of Africa," visit the former home of Danish author Karen Blixen.
Option B: Kazuri Beads and Pottery Centre: Visit this inspiring workshop that creates handmade ceramic beads, jewelry, and pottery. It provides employment for disadvantaged women in Kenya. A great place to buy unique souvenirs.
5:30 PM: Return to Hotel/Airport
Your driver-guide will drop you off at your hotel in Nairobi or transfer you to Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) for your onward flight.
