Best Time to Visit:
Dry Seasons (Best for wildlife viewing): June to October and January to February. Animals congregate around permanent water sources, making them easier to spot. The skies are also generally clearer, offering the best chances for magnificent views of Mount Kilimanjaro.
Wet Seasons (Green, fewer crowds, good for birding): November, April, and May. The landscape is lush, and it's excellent for birdwatching as migratory birds are present. However, some roads can be challenging due to rain, and spotting wildlife might be harder due to denser vegetation.
Accommodation: Amboseli offers a range of lodges and tented camps both inside and just outside the park, catering to various budgets. Some popular options include:
Inside the Park: Ol Tukai Lodge, Amboseli Serena Safari Lodge.
Outside/Bordering the Park: Kibo Safari Camp, Sentrim Amboseli Camp, Amboseli Sopa Lodge, Kilima Safari Camp.
Transportation:
Road Safari: Most common. It's a scenic drive of approximately 4-5 hours from Nairobi to Amboseli, depending on traffic and road conditions. You'll typically travel in a safari minivan (more budget-friendly) or a 4x4 Land Cruiser Jeep (more comfortable and recommended for rougher terrain).
Fly-in Safari: More expensive but significantly cuts down travel time (about 45-60 minutes from Nairobi's Wilson Airport). Ideal if you have limited time or prefer to avoid long drives. Your lodge/camp will usually arrange transfers and game drives from the airstrip.
